Litsarda

If you leave Vamos and follow signs to Kefalas, about a kilometre along the road, there is sign and right turn to Litsarda. Drive up the hill and you will find a very small traditional, picturesque village with about 130 permanent residents, this is Litsarda.

No matter how small the village there is of course a great church. The village is surrounded by Olive groves and has spectacular views to the White Mountains, some properties also overlook the blue seas of Souda Bay. On the outskirts of the village are some newer homes with tremendous views.

Litsardas' main attraction is its peaceful location whilst its only a few minutes drive to the beaches and tavernas of Kalyves and Almyrida. It’s also very close to Kefalas, Vamos and its only a 10 minute drive to Giorgioupolis . There are no serious tourist attractions in Litsarda, but there is one great ‘taverna’. This is a ‘taverna’ that also acts as the village mini market and a separate area is stocked with basic essentials.

I put the word taverna in commas because no one refers to the place as a taverna – it’s known to all and sundry as the pizza place / pizzeria at Litsarda. Its similarity to ‘Pizza Hut’ or any other UK based chain or franchise is nil. For those of us who live here, that a good thing.

People from miles around travel to Litsarda either eat there or take food away. The pizza menu is relatively small but the pizzas aren’t –they are delicious and great value for money. There is also a limited menu for local food – again all first class and a great price.

Because of its popularity, the pizza place is moving from its current very basic home to a newly built stone property across the road. Long may it thrive.
